Royal Canin In & Outdoor, now available from Swell Pets.
Fit 32
Occasional outside access, moderate activity.
A cat having limited and occasional access to the outside: spends most of the time indoors.
Her energy requirements are moderate but her natural defences are put under stress.
She spends a lot of time grooming. She swallows hairs but can't always eliminate them by naturally purging them with grass. Hairballs can therefore form in her stomach.
Outdoor 30
Frequent outside access and high level of activity.
The cat has regular and free access to the outside. She spends hours outdoors.
She is exposed to certain risks such as fights and infectious agents more often and for longer. She has to depend on her natural defences to overcome these.
She spends a lot of energy and has to face extremes of temperature.
Mature 28
For cats over 10 years old.
Although mature, the cat over 10 years old which has access to the outdoors continues to have a high activity level. To allow her to remain active her energy requirements, which tend to increase with age because the digestive system becomes less efficient, need to be taken into account.
The cat over 10 years old is more prone to kidney disorders, and her natural defences become less effective.
The effects of ageing are felt in the joints, which are under life-long pressure in cats that go outside.
* Leading a very active life:
When outside, the cat runs, climbs trees and explores her territory. She has a high energy expenditure that varies according to the seasons and the frequency of going outside. The season also influences the coat and sexual cycle.
* Taking risks:
A cat that goes outside puts her immune system under heavy stress, as she meets other animals that could transmit infectious diseases, can pick up parasites and could ingest poisons.
* Tooth and mouth hygiene need attention:
Dental disorders are very common in cats and cause bad breath, receding of gums, infections or bones loss. Dental plaque is a bacterial deposit that forms on the surface of the teeth and turns into tartar by trapping salivary calcium.
