Dog Coats

Many people believe that dog coats are just a fashion accessory for your dog, especially as many celebrities dogs are photographed wearing them. Although you can choose to buy a dog coat simply for dog fashion they can also be bought for many a practical reason too.
These reason can vary greatly but the leading reasons are for keeping your dog warm and dry in the winter months, especially if your dog has a short coat, or is a mature dog as they can develop conditions such as arthritis and keeping their joints warm and dry becomes much more important.

Dog Coats for Winter

There are a number of dog coats available in the market place to choose from and you would need to decide what purpose you want your dog coat to serve before making the decision to buy as this could greatly influence which type you choose.
You will find that a number of the coats are showerproof or waterproof but some are designed just to be a light weight anorak where others have thicker thermal linings to keep your dog extra warm.
There are other coats available that are designed more towards warmth and can have a fleece, tweed or even faux suede outer which all look great and also offer amazing warmth for your dog. There are also fluorescent dog jackets available which are ideal for the dark winter mornings and nights and help to ensure your dogs safety.

To find out which size of coat would be best for your dog most manufacturers advise that you take the measurement from the nape of your dogs neck to the base of their tail and this will provide you with the required size.
