Like all Mikki de-matting products, this Mikki Matt Breaker with replacement blades has micro-serrated edges and is made from stainless steel to ensure long lasting quality as well as excellent results.
Most dogs suffer from tangles and matts from time-to-time, especially those active dogs with longer fur and to get rid of them you need the right equipment, like this Matt Breaker from Mikki.
Easy to use and efficient, it is great at removing matts and tangles, using stainless steel blades (of which it comes with spares) that are shaped for a perfect cutting effect. It features a comfort-grip handle for endurance when tackling mounds of matted fur.
Directions for Use
Perfect at removing matts in medium or long-haired dog coats, it careful works through matted fur while reducing the amount of fur lost in the process. The Mikki Matt Breaker is to be used after matts have been identified during normal grooming with a brush of comb.
Use short strokes to cut progressively into dense matts. With particularly dense matts it may be necessary to rotate your wrist to use a sawing motion (See Photos - fig.1). Never try to force the Matt Breaker through the coat, as doing so is ineffective and only serves to cause discomfort for your pet, as if they were simply having their hair pulled.
When using the matt breaker to remove a matt, best practice is to try to hold the hair at the roots, therefore avoiding pulling the skin. Work from the outer ends of the hairs towards the roots using short strokes (fig.2). Try to keep the motion parallel to the skin and avoid plucking upwards (fig.3)
Sadly, if your pet is suffering from excessive matting it may wise to seek professional assistance and possibly a vet. Sensitive areas such as around the face or the groin may be better clipped.
Once you are done, clean the Matt Breaker after each use. A little light oil on the blades works well too, then store in a safe place away from children.
Important: keep out of reach of children. Use extra care when using any grooming aid with sharp edges.
