Grapes 'not good for dog food'

Offering grapes as dog food has been discouraged as they can be harmful to canines.
Giving a canine grapes as dog food is not advised, according to one expert, as they can be harmful.A concerned pet owner wrote to Pete Wedderburn's column in the Daily Telegraph, explaining their concern after their alsatian ate some grapes that had fallen on the floor.
While what the owner had been told about grapes being toxic was true, Mr Wedderburn explained that it is down to the size of the dog whether they will have much of an effect.
"The general rule of toxic dose per kilogram of body weight applies, so your German shepherd would be at much lower risk than a tiny terrier," the vet stated.
He added that anyone who is unsure about if their pet has tried grapes from dog food they should take them to the vet, as they can suffer fatal renal failure.
Pet owners who want their furry friends to lose weight have until today (August 27th) to sign them up to the PDSA's Pet Fit Club competition.
