Dog food treat for police search-and-rescue animal
A police search-and-rescue animal has got a big dog food treat for a successful mission.A dog food treat has been given to a search-and-rescue animal working for the police in the US after he worked successfully on a mission.
Craig Donnahoe, a state parole agent, explained that he has been training two-year-old bloodhound Luke since he was a puppy.
He stated that the breed is ideal for search-and-rescue work as they can get a scent from dead skin cells.
Mr Donnahoe told the Sacramento Bee that Luke recently undertook a training mission where he was given the smell of colleague Mark Yanders from his hat and had to track him down.
He explained that once Luke found the officer, he gave him a big dog food treat as a reward.
"To do this job, a dog needs a lot of confidence," said Mr Donnahoe. "Luke's learned to trust me and to believe in me. And I believe in him."
Dog food treats are regularly given to sniffer dogs after they have completed a mission.
