Dog food 'can include mashed vegetables'

Dog food 'can include mashed vegetables'

Pet owners can make their dog food go further by adding mashed vegetables.

Dog food can be made to last for longer if pet owners add mashed vegetables to it.

This is according to pet cookbook author Arden Moore, who has written a title called Real Food for Dogs, which is full of recipes people can use.

But a report by the Chicago Tribune warned that some ingredients should never be fed to pets as they can be harmful to them.

Writer Carrie Kirby explained that this should include grapes and onions, while people with dogs should be careful not to give them too much fat, for instance by feeding them leftover turkey skin during the holidays.

Veterinary nutritionist Susan Lauten added that it is safe for up to ten per cent of a canine's diet to be made up of human products, while the rest should be dog food.

This comes shortly after Mary Kirlin, the executive director of the Humane Society of Marathon County, told wsaw.com that the right dog food can maintain a pet's weight.
