Hungry canine 'inspires' dog food drive

A person who adopted a malnourished pet has opted to help others in need of dog food.
A new scheme to collect dog food to help those struggling with the cost of feeding a pet has begun.Local news provider the Livingston Daily reports that Jennifer Fleming has teamed up with a group of like-minded professionals to start a new dog food pantry to help those who cannot afford to feed their animal a proper diet.
Ms Fleming was inspired by Sammy, an underweight dog she had taken in from Livingston County Animal Control. She believed that Sammy's former owners could not afford to feed the pet, so wanted to help others in a similar situation.
While the team is currently focussing on developing dog food programmes to help those in need, eventually the pantry could also offer education, the news provider notes.
In particular, people would be encouraged to learn about the importance of spaying and neutering their animals, Sarah Mews from the Livingston County Humane Society and one of the others involved in starting the new pet food programme, told the news provider.
Various dog food donation schemes take place over the winter months, helping to ensure that pets get enough food to help them through the colder period.
