Police dog's bravery to be honoured on the BBC
One police dog may be offered some very special dog food when her TV debut airs. Some very special dog food may be in order for one brave pooch, whose crime fighting skills are to be celebrated on the BBC.
This is Wiltshire reported that police dog Anya is to star on television programme Britain's Bravest Cops after she fought a knife-wielding criminal in January 2008.
Constable Neil Sampson and his partners Michael Mansell and Ciaran Magee were in charge of the German shepherd and will also appear on the BBC One series.
The case the programme will focus on is one in which the police officers were called to a block of flats in Liden to face a drugged man called Essa Suleiman, who was carrying a knife.
Anya protected PC Sampson, her handler, when the criminal leapt at him with the sharp implement but was stabbed in the chest in her effort to fight the man.
Despite the wound, the three-year-old pooch kept a tight hold on Mr Suleiman, leading to his arrest.
Dogs like Anya could soon find themselves eating dog food under the guidance of another force, as This is Cornwall recently reported that Devon and Cornwall Police are beginning to supply other units with animals they have trained up.
